Educational Therapy

Structured, Evidence-Based Literacy Support

Many learners struggle not because they lack effort or ability, but because the structure of literacy tasks does not match how their thinking and language systems work.

Educational Therapy provides explicit, structured, and individualised support for reading, writing, and comprehension. It focuses on understanding why a learner is struggling and addressing the underlying language, literacy, and cognitive demands, rather than practising around the difficulty.

This work is grounded in evidence-based practice and informed by an Executive Function lens, recognising that literacy, attention, working memory, and regulation are deeply interconnected.

Reading

Focuses on developing foundational reading skills by emphasising phonemic awareness, blending techniques, sight word recognition, and effective spelling strategies.

By systematically teaching the relationship between sounds and letters, this programme enables learners to decode words efficiently, improving reading fluency and comprehension.

Such structured literacy approaches are particularly beneficial for all students, including those with dyslexia, as they provide explicit instruction in the essential components of reading.

Comprehension

Aim to achieve comprehension mastery by developing oral, visual, and written comprehension skills.

By engaging students in activities that enhance vocabulary, background knowledge, and critical thinking, this program fosters the ability to understand and interpret a range of texts.

Structured literacy instruction that includes explicit instruction in comprehension strategies has been shown to improve students' reading outcomes.

Such comprehensive approaches ensure that learners can apply their reading skills across different contexts, leading to academic success.

Writing

Enhances writing proficiency by concentrating on writing mechanics, including planning, organisation, and vocabulary expansion.

Through explicit instruction in sentence structure, grammar, and writing, students learn to express their ideas clearly and effectively. This structured approach improves writing skills and reinforces reading comprehension as students understand text structures and language use more deeply.

Integrating writing instruction with reading practices aligns with evidence-based literacy strategies promoting language development.

Spelling

Spelling difficulties are often linked to underlying language processing, working memory, and Executive Function demands.

Education therapy provides explicit, structured spelling instruction that helps learners understand sound–symbol relationships, patterns, and word structure, rather than relying solely on memorisation.

By strengthening spelling through structured literacy and language-based instruction, learners reduce cognitive load during writing, improve accuracy, and develop greater confidence and independence across academic tasks.

Who This Is For?

Education Therapy is suitable for:

  • Children and teens with persistent reading or writing challenges

  • Learners with dyslexia or language-based learning differences

  • Students who appear capable but struggle to keep up with literacy demands

  • Learners who experience frustration, avoidance, or fatigue around schoolwork
